Ayrshire Academy Of Canine Beauticians
is a private training school.
We issue a certificate of training on completion of our courses courses .
This certificate recognises the attendance, skills and training which our students have completed.
The courses are a foundation step towards qualification i.e. City & Guilds.
It is a requirement that you have worked in the grooming industry for a minimum of 18 months before you can sit your City & Guilds. Please also note that it is not a legal requirement in the UK for grooming salons or their employees to have a recognised qualification.
Ayrshire Academy of Canine Beauticians students are taught that each breed has different requirements and there are many types of coat which all require specialist skills and techniques in their preparation.
Dog Grooming involves bathing, shampooing, drying and clipping, trimming , handstripping and brushing a variety of long, short and double coated dogs.
Dog groomers should have a good  eye for detail.
Along with these standard services there are also special procedures which include nail clipping, ear care and treatment for parasites.
A love of animals is essential for this type of work, and a good deal of patience is required, with a firm but gentle way of handling. Good customer care is a large part of the job, and a pleasant courteous manners combined with a neat and tidy appearance are essential.
Dog grooming as a career can be described in many ways.  The dogs, come in all shapes and sizes, temperaments and conditions. Some of them are the dog groomers dream they will stand patiently whilst some of them need a firm but fair approach. Dog Grooming is hard physical work which can be physically draining. At the same time though it is satisfying and very rewarding.
If your goal is to start your own dog grooming business you will need to take our 30 day course. When you have completed this course you will be ready to start your own business and book in your first dogs. What you wont have is speed. This comes with experience and the only way to get that experience is to get started. This means that when you start your own grooming business your income will be restricted by the number of dogs you can realistically take on each day. A newly trained groomer- working alone will only be able to manage 2 dogs a day to start with, so the initial financial rewards will be limited. However, with repetition comes speed and you can expect your daily work load and income to steadily increase.
After your course is complete, we will always be on hand for guidance and advice.
We also offer City  & Guilds Level 2, 3 and Diploma Exam.
